Baptism

Congratulations on taking this important step in your child's faith journey! At the St. Carlo Acutis Family of Parishes, Baptism is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Through Baptism, parents accept the responsibility of raising their child in the Catholic faith through prayer, religious education, regular Mass attendance, and active participation in parish life."

To begin the process, at least one parent must be Catholic. Parents should be active parishioners of St. Gabriel, St. John, or St. Michael. Families who belong to another parish are welcome to request a letter of permission from their pastor to celebrate the sacrament within our Family of Parishes.

Standard Baptism registration is available for children ages 0–6. If your child is age 7 or older and has not yet been baptized, please contact us to learn more about the Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC).
If you are a registered parishioner, please complete the Baptism Registration Form linked below. After your form is received, a member of our staff will contact you to review your information and explain the next steps, including our monthly Baptism Preparation Class. Once the preparation process is complete, we will work with you to schedule a Baptism date from the available options below.

We look forward to welcoming your family as we celebrate this joyful sacrament together.

A Baptism Preparation Class is required for all first-time parents. These classes are required of all first-time parents and will explain the Baptism ritual and symbols, review qualifications for godparents and suggest methods for passing on the faith to their children. These simple sessions are designed to introduce young families to each other, perhaps embarking on a lifetime of friendship. It is recommended that expectant parents attend prior to the birth of their child if possible.

    Baptism Registration

    • Please allow 10–15 minutes to complete this form. We encourage you to begin only when you have enough time to thoughtfully reflect on and answer each question.
    • Before you begin, have information about your child's godparent(s) available, including the parish where they were baptized and the parish where they currently worship or are registered members.
    • All sections of this form must be completed before a Baptism can be scheduled. Once your submission has been received and reviewed, a member of our parish staff will contact you to arrange a Baptism date and time, as well as a Baptism preparation class if one is required.
    • For the best experience, we recommend completing this form on a desktop or laptop computer rather than on a phone or tablet.

Q1: Briefly indicate why you want your child baptized in the Catholic church.
Q2: How does your faith prepare you to fulfill the responsibility of nourishing your child’s faith?

    Godparent Information

Godparents, along with the parents, present the child for baptism. According to current church law and pastoral practice, there can be up to two godparents present at each baptism of any child. Ideally, one male and one female sponsor is to be employed in the baptism of another (canon 872-873). The requirement in canon law is that a baptismal sponsor be a practicing Catholic who is confirmed and at least sixteen years of age, leading a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken. At least one person who meets these requirements must serve as a sponsor (canon 874). Non-Catholics who are baptized, practicing members of their faith can serve as “Christian witnesses”. A “baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may not be admitted (to the role of godparent or sponsor) except as a witness to baptism and together with a Catholic sponsor” (canon 874). Catholic godparents are required to provide a letter of their parish affiliation before the baptism. People who are not baptized cannot be godparents, sponsors, or Christian witnesses.
